American Pottery Festival Poster

Once again a stack  American Pottery Festival posters arrived via US Mail. It is another nicely laid out design with 85 sweet pots. If you would like one for your home, studio, or classroom I’ll be happy to send one while my supply lasts. Email me and type Poster in the subject line.

This is the 20th anniversary of the Northern Clay Center and they have invited everyone who has ever participated in the Festival to send 10 – 20 pieces. The dates of the show and pottery extravaganza are September 9-12 this year in Minneapolis, MN.

Containment – Live on the Web 4/1 @ 10am

Containment…A Group Exhibition of Ceramic Boxes

opens Thursday April 1 @ 10 at Crimson Laurel Gallery in Bakersville, NC.

Click here to see the show online.

David Trophia has been leaking images of some of the boxes on the gallery’s Facebook page as well as several video teasers. From  the looks of the what I’ve seen so far, it will be a great show. Thanks to the gallery for using my box on the invitation and in one of the video spots. The box pictured above is one of the two in the show.

Boxes have been one of my favorite forms to make and collect since Jane Shellenbarger  hipped me to box making in her Penland workshop back in the fall of 2000. I still wish I had one of the beautiful woodfired boxes she made during the class.

Participating artists include Leanne Ash, William Baker, Hayne Bayless, Nicholas Bivins, Jason Burnett, Melisa Cadell, Kyle Carpenter, Julie Covington, David Crane, Susan Fagan, Marty Fielding, Becca Floyd, Erik Haagensen, Kent Harris, Bryan Hopkins, Shawn Ireland, Peter Karner, Ani Kasten, Jennifer Kincaid, Jeff Kleckner, Michael Kline, Eric Knocke, Ryan McKerley, Brooke Noble, Ronan Kyle Peterson, Rob Pulleyn, Emily Reason, Lindsay Rogers, Jenny Lou Sherburne, Liz Summerfield, Joy Tanner and Jerilyn Virden.

NCECA in Philadelphia

If you are a clay person you already know what NCECA is and that it’s in Philadelphia this year. For those of you who don’t work with clay; the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts holds an annual conference and the clay community converges on that city for about a week. This year it’s in Philly from March 31 – April 3.

I wish I could be there for the conference and for a great pre-conference “Making Through Living-Living Through Making: Studio Pottery in 2010”. My friend, Michael Connelly is co-hosting this event at the Montgomery County Community College ceramics studio, where he is the department chair. Check the link to see the star studded cast and the topics of discussion.

DINNERWARE
I will be involved in a couple of shows connected to the conference.

La Mesa is presented by Santa Fe Clay at the Marriott. 150 artists are invited to send a place setting or centerpiece. With all the tables set, it should make for quite a soire’.

a la cARTe is a show that pairs pottery with Philadelphia restaurants during the NCECA conference. Food and drinks will be served in handmade cups and dishes. The restaurants involved are Café Ole @ 147 N. 3rd Street and Race Street Café @ 208 Race Street. I sent a group of square soup bowls. If you see one, please let me know what they’re serving.

Also, look for my work at Caleb Meyer gallery @ 8520 Germantown Avenue. They should have some hard to find stoneware pots of mine.
